about

A mere 7 years after their near-legendary debut, Belleville returned with a frankly stonking sophomore effort.

Not so much the difficult second record as pregnant drummer, new drummer, moving to Cali, opening coffee shop, moving to Montreal, more babies etc etc. All this stuff slowed down the recording process somewhat but album 2 was finally ready to say hello in the blistering hot summer of 2018.

Now over at Belleville HQ, we appreciate everyone is super busy so here's a three-word synopsis of each song:

Well - janglepop indie lovesong
Boogaloo - future hit single
Conscience conscience - just really lovely
Walking out of time - weird psych hipshaker
Broken empire - things fall apart
No need to argue - all the guitars
Sunshine - a heartfelt apology
In the morning - an exotic man
Joie de vivre - insanely good ending

Hope that helps save some time.

The release of Sometimes I Exaggerate means Belleville are now officially on hiatus so consider this a probable swansong. If so, thanks for everything and goodbye forever (maybe...).

Their eponymous debut album was described as "a gorgeously minimal approach" by Rough Trade and "a healthy mix of indie-country-blues-lo-fi rock in its greatest nuanced quietly distorted form" by Camden New Journal. ... more
